4 Healthy Habits You Can Adopt Now

If you are not making your physical health a priority, now is the time to do so. Here are four healthy habits that you can adopt now that will vastly improve the quality of your life.

Get More Sleep

Adults should be aiming to get at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night, yet many people fall woefully short of that goal. While you may think that you need that extra hour or two in your day to be productive, it is more important to get a good night of rest. If you normally go to bed at midnight, try going to bed at 11 p.m. instead to get that crucial extra hour. There are many resources online to help you manage your time more effectively, to help ensure you will not miss that extra hour in your day.

Eat Out Less

As many as 28.2% of Americans visit quick-service restaurants every week. If you must eat out frequently, try to make good decisions about the items that you order. It’s easy to be tempted by fast food because it’s so convenient. However, indulging in this habit on a regular basis can be detrimental to your health. Try to aim for eating fast food only a few times per month. Packing lunches and trying meal prep services will help your health, and save you money in the process.

Limit Screen Time

It is no surprise that many people are addicted to their screens regardless of whether it is a laptop, smartphone, tablet or television. One of the dangers of excessive screen time is t hat it encourages a more sedentary lifestyle. It is also bad for your eyes, making it necessary for you look away from the screen at least every 20 minutes. Because blue light from devices can interfere with sleep quality, it is recommended that you turn off the television or electronic device at least one hour before bedtime. Instead, try reading a book before going to sleep.

Take More Walks

One of the most effective and accessible exercises that you can do is simply lace up your shoes and go for a walk. Even if you work at a sedentary office job, you can take a walk during your lunch break. An evening walk after dinner with your family is a great way to get in those steps while you catch up on the day. Using tricks like always taking the stairs and parking as far away as possible from the door will help the steps add up in no time.

Your health should never be taken for granted. By incorporating these four tips into your daily lifestyle, you will be doing your overall health a big favor both now and down the road.
